Battlefield Conditions

What are Battlefield Conditions? Battlefield Conditions add a new and exciting dynamic to the normal style of play. They are changes in the environment or atmosphere in an Arcane Legions Scenario that affect the way the game works.

For example, pretend the battlefield happens to be taking place in a dark or shrouded environment. As you can imagine, a shadowed battlefield could hamper visibility. To reflect this, the scenario could have a Battlefield Condition where ranged combat attacks are hindered. Or perhaps the air above the battlefield is supercharged with Arcane energy. The Battlefield Condition for this game might then dictate that all Arcane attacks gain a bonus. Not all Battlefield Conditions are based on environmental factors, however. They could be changes that reflect the goal of the scenario. Perhaps the current political or social climate of the region in which the Scenario is taking place.

A couple of things to remember about Battlefield Conditions:

Battlefield Conditions are constant. Unless otherwise indicated, they should be considered “in play” before the game even begins, and they affect both combatants.

If at any time there is a dispute about the rules of play, always default to the letter of the law. Beyond whatever the Battlefield Conditions state, follow what is printed on your Unit card, and beyond that, follow the rulebook.

The most important thing to remember is: Don’t let Battlefield Conditions hang you up. Think about how they will affect you and plan ahead. Always try to think of ways to take advantage of them; don’t let them take advantage of you! Carry on, soldier!
