Brave, noble and loyal almost to a fault, Decidius Saxa is one of the Imperium’s most capable warriors and commanders. He leads the 13th Legion, a large force of Romans that swore loyalty to Mark Antony before he turned his back on the Empire. Decidius’ past is tragic. When the Night of Mists arrived, it turned his wife and young son into minotaurs—the same fate that befell every native of Crete. Decidius watched in horror as his wife transformed, and then was forced to kill his son in self-defense when the enraged, confused young minotaur charged his own father. Decidius carries the pain of those moments with him every moment.

Many years later, Decidius serves with distinction as the commander of Anthony’s Legio XIII. Though utterly loyal to his liege and quick to smash any uprising within the ranks from men dissatisfied with Anthony’s decisions, he can’t help but harbor the same doubts and suspicions himself. He admires the once-great triumvir’s skills as a warrior and commander, but is saddened at the man that Anthony has become. Decidius took as his lover Masika, the Hand of Isis commander whom Cleopatra assigned to his personal company. His relationship with Masika, along with her coy comments and increasingly insubordinate pillow talk, revealed some of the secrecy around the Legion along with many disturbing facts about the queen and the fate of the Imperium.
