Arcane Legions

The Xiongnu peoples of the steppes are some of the fiercest horsemen in the world. They train from childhood in warfare from the saddle, using bow and spear and sword to hack down their enemies while charging. Since the Night of Mists and their lord Modu Shanyu’s resurrection, the Xiongnu have been united behind a single purpose: grow strong enough to challenge and destroy the Han dynasty. Because they know such a mission will take incredible resources, they have hired their skilled cavalrymen out to anyone with sufficient coin and a will to fight the Han.

Some of the most skilled of the Xiongnu are the mounted archers, armored men who fight with bow from horseback, always in motion, always firing, always deadly. Xiongnu archers are deadly against other cavalry, especially untrained cavalry. Where other troops may fire from horseback if the horse is standing still, a Xiongnu can fire at a gallop, and hit what he aims at.

The Xiongnu archers in service with Rome and Egypt fight like men possessed. They are desperate to prove their worth to the Xiongnu nation. The Night of Mists created legions of green-skinned kör the Xiongnu venerate, and the warriors of the tribes that were not changed feel the loss of their tribes’ respect. They fight incredibly hard to try and regain some of that honor, to prove that despite being overlooked by the magic of the Night, they too are warriors, and they too have a place in the battle against the Han.
