Arcane Legions

The Wu Tou Gui are the spirits of certain criminals charged and convicted of serious crimes, then sentenced to death by decapitation. After their death, their tormented souls return to the site of their execution haunting the living and weeping dry tears of shame and regret. Wu Tou Gui wear ghostly, ornate robes indicating their status in life. Their severed heads dangle on their chest, held in place by a string that runs in one ear, through the head, and out the other ear. Wu Tou Gui float on wisps of ethereal smoke, arms hanging listlessly at their sides and feet dangling inanimately beneath.

In preparation for the campaign into the west, Himiko traveled China offering these restless spirits absolution if they would come with her and use their frightful presence to aid her armies. With no other choice than an eternity of torment and sorrow, they thronged to her side by the thousands in hopes that their souls would find release and the blemish be removed from both their honor and that of their families. Their grisly appearance and terrifying presence unnerves all but the most stalwart soldiers—even friendly troops do their best to steer clear of these gruesome spirits on the battlefield.
