Harionago is a frightful spirit that once wandered the island of Shikoku, ensnaring men with her beauty and killing them with her magical, barbed hair. When Himoko united the islands of Japan, she ensnared the vengeful creature in a complicated spell of compulsion in order to eliminate the threat without sacrificing such a powerful entity—Harionago must follow Himiko's orders, may not harm her, and is forbidden to kill without the permission of her mistress. When the Emperor sent Himiko to war, she chose to bring this otherworldly bodyguard along to ensure her personal safety. Though Harionago seethes at the magical restrictions placed upon her, she vents her frustration on the battlefield, causing massive casualties and basking in pleasure as her hair chokes the life out of the living.

At first glance, Harionago appears as a beautiful woman wearing an ornate kimono. Her otherworldly appearance soon becomes apparent, however. Her amazingly long hair is bound in many cords that end in thorn-like metal barbs. This hair floats and writhes about her like a living thing and can grow to incredible lengths to bind and suffocate an enemy as she coos and whispers like a lover in an embrace.
